Three ways to begin

Each course builds on the last, but you can also join the one that matches where you are today. Every class stays small enough for an instructor to actually watch your footing.

First Steps Personal Safety

An approachable starting point covering awareness, confident posture, clear verbal boundaries and two or three simple releases, at a relaxed pace with room for questions.

Ridge Line Skills Block

Ten weeks of structured practice in striking basics, releases from front and rear holds, protecting your head and getting back up from the ground, building in challenge only as you feel ready.

CA$495

Summit Season

A six-month programme for learners who want a long-term routine, combining earlier skills with scenario days in varied indoor spaces and monthly small-group discussions about everyday awareness.

About the studio

Halvorn started as a handful of evening classes for neighbours who wanted a calmer way to learn personal safety — no sparring pressure, no competition track, just steady repetition of a few things that actually work under stress.

Classes are taught in Wasaga Beach and open to newcomers who have never trained before as well as people returning after a break. Group sizes stay small enough that an instructor can watch your stance, not just the clock.

How a course climbs

First Steps — 4 weeks

75 minutes weekly. Lightest weekly time, the gentlest grade in.

Ridge Line — 10 weeks

Two 60-minute sessions a week. A steadier mid-level commitment.

Summit Season — 26 weeks

Two to three sessions a week across six months, the fullest time investment.

This elevation profile compares weekly time across the three courses — see the full course breakdown for what each week actually covers.

A plain way of teaching

Small, consistent groups

Every class keeps a low student count so repetition actually gets watched and corrected rather than left to figure out alone.

Same drills, every level

Releases and positioning are practised the same way from First Steps through Summit Season, so nothing you learn early gets replaced later.
